Gemotions

The gentle rocking of the hammock was almost hypnotic. Liam lay back, the late afternoon sun warm on his skin, listening to the rustle of leaves in the breeze. A cold glass of lemonade sat nearby, condensation beading on its surface. He'd spent the entire day in the backyard, working on nothing, letting the world simply drift by.

His mother, while cleaning out the family storage unit, had found a small, tarnished tin box. Inside, was a letter from Liam, written when he was a teenager, addressed to a girl he'd had a crush on.

Reading the words now, he felt a wave of amusement wash over him. His younger self had been so serious, so earnest. He folded the letter carefully, a slow smile spreading across his face.
